You don’t have to face this alone.

Harbor & Home provides compassionate, non-medical end-of-life doula support, advance care planning, and family guidance for individuals, families, caregivers, and organizations throughout Western Pennsylvania.

The Person Behind Harbor & Home

I founded Harbor & Home on the belief that no one should have to navigate serious illness, dying, or grief alone.

I'm Shaun Nicholson-Rochmann, an INELDA-trained End-of-Life Doula and Respecting Choices Advance Care Planning Facilitator. I provide compassionate, non-medical support that complements the work of hospice and medical teams, helping individuals and families find clarity, dignity, and peace throughout the end-of-life journey.

Before founding Harbor & Home, I spent nearly two decades helping people navigate difficult conversations, major life transitions, and organizational change through leadership roles in human resources. Looking back, I realize that what I valued most wasn't solving problems—it was being fully present with people during life's most challenging moments.

Finding My Way to the Threshold

It started with a novel. I was reading when I came across a scene that stopped me completely — Scotland Yard is about to notify a family that a body found near the Thames is likely their missing son. The mother, understanding the weight of what was coming, calls a trusted friend who was an end of life doula — not just for company, but to be a steady, knowing presence as she and her husband walked into the unimaginable together. Someone who could hold the room when they could not.

I set the book down and looked up "end of life doula." I had never heard the term. Within minutes, something shifted in me. The connection between this work and everything I had spent my career doing, everything I had lived through personally, everything I had been quietly drawn toward — it all arrived at once.

How It Works — A Gentle, Clear Process

You don't need to have all the answers. Just reach out — we'll take it from there.

1. Discovery Call A free 30-minute call to talk through your situation, answer your questions, and see if we're the right fit. No pressure, no commitment.

2. Intake & Plan We build a picture of your needs, wishes, and family system — and create a clear plan for how we'll work together.

3. Ongoing Support We show up — consistently, compassionately, and completely present — for as long as you need us. That presence is emotional and relational: sitting with your loved one, holding vigil, coaching caregivers, and giving families room to breathe.

Because Harbor & Home is a non-medical practice, hands-on personal care and medical treatment remain the responsibility of your hospice or healthcare team. My role is to provide compassionate presence, guidance, advocacy, and support throughout the journey.

4. Bereavement Follow-Up Our care doesn't end at death. We follow up with families in the immediate aftermath and connect you with grief support resources.

Let's Talk About What You Need

Every conversation is confidential, unhurried, and completely on your terms. Whether you're ready to move forward or just have questions — we're here.

Sometimes the greatest gift we can offer isn't fixing what's happening—it's making sure no one has to walk through it alone.
